Dorehami’s Iranian culture guide
Celebrations, history, cities, poets and family activities with sources and stable links.
Cities and heritage
Isfahan: the square and urban life
Naqsh-e Jahan offers an example of Safavid urban planning. The square, bazaar and surrounding buildings connect work, art and public life.
Yazd: living with the climate
Yazd’s historic urban fabric offers ways to explore earthen architecture, lanes and adaptation to an arid climate. Houses and neighborhoods can be read together.
Tabriz: the story of the bazaar
Tabriz’s historic bazaar is an interconnected complex of trade and social life. Explore the movement of goods and the relationships between its spaces.
Tehran: Golestan and court history
Golestan Palace offers an entry into Qajar architecture and art in Tehran. Buildings and decoration can be examined through their changing uses.
The Persian garden: water and geometry
Persian gardens vary across regions. Water channels, spatial divisions and the relationship between pavilions and plants offer subjects for comparison.
Shushtar: the heritage of water engineering
Shushtar’s historic hydraulic system offers ways to examine water management and use. Its components developed and changed across different periods.
Poets and literature
Hafez
Hafez is a Persian ghazal poet associated with Shiraz. Biographical information is limited; poetic imagery is not automatically autobiography.
Saadi
Saadi is a major figure in Persian poetry and prose. Golestan and Bustan are well-known works; a literary tale should be distinguished from a direct historical record.
Ferdowsi
Ferdowsi composed the Shahnameh, combining mythical, heroic and historical narratives. These parts cannot all be read using one identical historical standard.
Rumi
Rumi is a major Persian-language poet. The Masnavi and Divan-e Shams are central works. Biography, storytelling and later interpretations should be distinguished.
Omar Khayyam
Khayyam is associated with mathematics, scholarship and quatrains. Not all famous quatrains are securely his, and biographical dates vary between sources.
Nezami Ganjavi
Nezami is known for Persian narrative poems. Five works form the Khamsa or Panj Ganj and have also influenced the arts of the book.
Parvin Etesami
Parvin Etesami is a modern Iranian poet. Literary dialogue and debate are prominent forms for human and social questions in her poetry.
Nima Yushij
Nima Yushij is associated with the renewal of modern Persian poetry. His Tabari poems are also part of his literary heritage.
Explore together
Iranian history for children
Start with an object, a picture and a question. The goal is curiosity, not memorizing every ruler.
From myth to history
A literary story has value of its own. Historical claims require questions about when it was written, its purpose and independent evidence.
How did people live?
History is more than wars and kings. Examine homes, work, food, clothing and play through the period’s evidence; one social group does not represent everyone.
Women and social roles
Follow women, children, artists and working people in history too. A court woman’s status does not represent every woman in that period.
Stories behind familiar objects
Begin with a carpet, vessel or instrument. Materials, patterns, uses and its journey into the home open questions about culture and family memory.
Iran through photographs and documents
Historical pictures need a date range, location, source and license. Reconstructions and symbolic images are not presented as original evidence.
History evenings at Dorehami
Turn reading into a short community evening with a sourced story, discussion and children’s activity. Every gathering requires prior coordination and confirmation.
