The Swedish category B theory test: preparation, language and validity
A guide to the theory test, practical planning for test day and the validity change from August 2026, with official sources.

What to know
Trafikverket’s standard category B theory test has 70 questions and lasts 50 minutes. Five trial questions do not count; passing requires at least 52 of 65 points. These figures describe the format, but preparation should extend beyond memorising an app’s answers. After a practice mistake, write down what you misunderstood and how you would recognise the situation on a real road. Try to explain the reason for your choice in your own words, even if the picture or wording changes. Recognising a familiar answer is less useful than understanding the underlying principle.
Prepare before starting
- Both parts of risk training must be completed and valid before the test. Do not assume attending a course and having correctly recorded, valid training are the same; follow up your own status through the proper channel.
- Choose the test language when booking. Persian is among the languages offered for category B. Consider making a small Swedish–Persian glossary of difficult terms so that your reading connects with the language encountered in traffic.
- Keep your booking confirmation, test-office address and travel plan together privately. This is a personal organisation suggestion, not an official document checklist. Check required identification separately on the Before the test page.
A practical step-by-step approach
- Consider dividing study into short sessions. End each session by explaining one rule without reading the answer and inventing a different situation where it applies. This is Dorehami’s study suggestion, not an official booking requirement.
- After a practice test, sort mistakes before immediately repeating the questions: did you misunderstand the wording, lack a rule or rush? Choose one small action for each category, such as reviewing a concept or practising careful reading.
- If you need test support, apply through Trafikverket for options such as extended time, an oral test or an interpreter. A supported test is booked after approval. Send relevant supporting documents through the proper agency channel, not to Dorehami.
- Arrive at least 30 minutes early for photography. Bring a valid physical identity document accepted by Trafikverket; digital BankID does not replace it. If you lack acceptable identification, an exemption application must reach the agency at least two weeks before the test.
- After the result, privately note what worked in your preparation and what needs changing. If unsuccessful, turn those notes into a specific plan before booking again. Completing a particular number of practice tests does not guarantee a pass.
Different circumstances and cautions
Category B theory passes from 19 August 2026 onward remain valid for one year. Earlier passes remain subject to the previous four-month rule. You must also pass the practical test within the validity period. Record your own pass date rather than applying the new period to an older result. For budgeting, check current booking and photography fees in the official service; this guide gives no prices or available appointment claims.
A common question
Is memorising practice answers enough preparation?
For your own study plan, ask yourself to explain why an answer makes sense and apply the same principle in a new example. If you only remember the answer’s position, revisit the topic. A study partner can ask about another situation and listen to your explanation without answering for you. This is a practice suggestion, not an official assessment of readiness or a promise about the result.
