Stockholm’s housing queue: from registration to an active search
A practical guide to active housing searches, listing conditions, reply deadlines and your account, without promising a move-in date.

What to know
This guide concerns Bostadsförmedlingen i Stockholm, not every Swedish housing queue. The usual registration route is for people aged 18 or over with a personal identity number or coordination number; consult the rules for exceptions. Registration does not trigger an automatic offer. You need to apply for a suitable listing and meet that landlord’s conditions. Queue time is compared among applicants for each particular home, so a general position cannot provide a guaranteed move-in date.
Prepare before starting
- Start with your own monthly budget, acceptable travel time and actual household needs. Do not let a promise of quick housing replace these personal limits.
- Keep a private list of queues you choose: name, official address, payment date and last check. Read each service’s rules separately.
- Check contact information, queue time and payment status in My Pages. Keep receipts yourself; do not send identity or income documents to Dorehami.
A practical step-by-step approach
- Sign in through the official address and check the current queue fee and due date in your account. Separate the queue fee from future rent and a deposit.
- Compare the listing with your personal criteria. Read the contract type and landlord requirements before applying; write down anything that needs clarification.
- After applying, monitor invitations and response deadlines in the account. Viewing a home, or reviewing alternative information, is not the same as confirming continued interest.
- At the offer stage, send requested certificates through the official channel. Queue time does not replace verification of conditions and landlord approval.
- Before your final reply, read how a binding yes, withdrawal and the contract affect your case and queue time. Ask customer service about uncertainties before the deadline.
Different circumstances and cautions
An average waiting time is not a promise for your case: area, rent and applicants vary by listing. Do not treat older statistics as today’s forecast. Check the address yourself when registering, paying or submitting documents. Never give passwords or login approvals to someone promising to move you ahead in the queue.
A common question
Can I just register and wait?
No, you search and register interest yourself. As a personal routine, set aside a regular time to review listings and keep three private notes for each: does it fit my needs, which conditions need checking, and when is my reply due? This is an organisational suggestion, not an agency rule or a housing guarantee.
